When I was thinking about my most anticipated films for 2013, the only film that I could think of that could possibly go at number one was the final part of the Three Colour’s Cornetto Trilogy: The World’s End. Now, the first trailer for the film has been released and it looks like my anticipation has been worth it.
Now there are a lot of really interesting things in this trailer, the main one being that Simon Pegg looks to be the main source of comedy in this film and Nick Frost is the straight man, in contrast to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz where it was the other way round. Now I like this as I really want to see the great stuff that Pegg and Frost can do with these roles, considering how great they were when it is the other way round.
I am also intrigued by what is going on with the other people in the village, the whole glowing face thing looks like it could provide some good scares, along with laughs, and raises questions about just what is going on in the village.
Finally there is the comedy potential, all of the leads can do great comedy work, especially seeing how all of them have worked with Pegg and Frost in the past (Martin Freeman in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Paddy Considine in Hot Fuzz and Eddie Marsan with Pegg in Mission Impossible 3) and there are some great players like Rosamund Pike and Darren Boyd in supporting roles. The highlight for me though is Mark Heap, bringing about a mini Spaced reunion in his scenes with Pegg and Frost, although his character in this may be a bit more sane that Brian in Spaced. There are also brief glimpses of other Spaced alumni Michael Smiley (Tyres) and Reece Shearsmith (Dexter, Mike’s rival in the TA). Here’s hoping that Jessica Hynes and Julia Deakin also have cameos that haven’t been made clear to the public yet. Plus, there is the next, logical step to the fence jumping gag.
Overall, this trailer fully confirms The World’s End as my most anticipated film for the year and I’ll be going to see it, with a good supply of Cornetto’s when it comes out.
